Diagnostic appliction and quantification of Ki67

The presentation will be focused on immunohistochemical double stains combining a tumour marker (Melan-A or Cytokeratin) with a proliferation marker such as Ki-67 or phosphohistone H3 in order to increase the accuracy and precision of the proliferation indices and make it possible to perform automatic image analysis. It will also be discussed if the proliferation indices should be based on an average score in the whole tumor area or in hot spots or in the invasive front. This will be illustrated in clinical trials in patients with malignant melanoma and in patients with breast cancer.
